Joy was born in Duluth to Fred and Grace (Bennett ) Heckroth on February 23, 1927. She was raised in west Duluth and attended Denfeld High School. Joy married the man of her life, Robert Moline, on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1946 and together they raised four daughters, Bonnie, Claudia, Pam and Cheryl “Cherri.” Joy was a wonderful cook and baker. She would not let anyone ever go home hungry and would always try to feed whoever stopped by. She enjoyed taking the bus all over town and would spend her summer days wandering around Canal Park and watching the boats come into the harbor. She loves reading and watching soap operas, but her greatest love was entertaining and spending time with her family. Joy’s eyes would light up when she saw her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to babysit any one of them. She had a great sense of humor, and in the last years was best described as feisty! A day would not go by that we did not hear from her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 2000; her baby grandson, Robbie; her parents; her sisters, Kaye Anthony, Ione Kangas, Georgia Phillips, Shirley Koza, and Betty Bezman; brothers, Robert Heckroth, Charles Petersen and James Petersen.
Joy is survived by her children, Bonnie Johnson-Roehl of Esko, Claudia Johnson, Pam (Robin) Daniels and Cheryl Rouse of Duluth; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 1 unborn great-great-grandchild; brothers, Walter Petersen and Joseph Petersen and many other family and friends.
