Sally was raised in Duluth and Tower and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1955. She graduated from UMD in 1959 with a BA in mathematics. Immediately after graduation she left Duluth to start a career in computer programming for Douglas Aircraft in California.
After several years she was hired by NASA to work as a computer specialist at the Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL. In 1966 she was recruited by TRW to work in the Satellite Division where she was a systems engineer and a project manager. She retired from TRW in 1993 and took over the family marina on Lake Vermillion until January of 2015. Sally created a warm, personal and family friendly resort. Her tenure there will forever be remembered as the “glory days” of Gruben’s Marina.
She loved travelling, sailing, quilting, going to the symphony and spending time with family and friends. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, George and Grayce; and brother, Richard.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family, her many friends and of course her “kids” Mozart, Bear and Miss Kitty.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 AM Saturday, November 7, 2015 at St James Presbyterian Church, 302 Spruce Street, Tower, MN. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10:00 AM. Lunch will be served at the church immediately following the service.
