Andrew Gordon Goodlad

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gordie Goodlad at the age of 87. Gord was born in North Vancouver, BC, and spent his early years in Horseshoe Bay. He then moved with his mother and sisters to Duncan where he would build the foundation of his life. It was there he met Sonja (nee Braten), and they were married for 50 years. Together they built their first home in Maple Bay and started their family. Gord spent his 42 working years running the boom boat on Cowichan Lake and driving the crummy. In the late 70’s he built their second house and moved his family into the place they all called Home. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time there with his family and friends, hosting family reunions, a wedding reception, and many other celebrations.

He had many hobbies including being a master craftsman in woodworking, gardening - especially growing his corn on the cob and riding his John Deere tractor keeping the property meticulously maintained. Another of his great passions was spending time on his beloved boat, The Sikanni Chief, where he loved crabbing, prawning, and cruising the Gulf Islands, San Juan Islands, and Desolation Sound with friends and family. He contributed endless hours to the Maple Bay Yacht Club where he met many of his lifelong friends. Gordie was always there to lend a helping hand and mentor others.

He took pride in providing for his family, spending time and making lasting memories on family trips and vacations. He supported his wife and daughters in all of their interests and aspirations and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Of all the roles he held, none made him prouder or happier than being a grandfather to his cherished grandchildren.

Gord was predeceased by his beloved wife Sonja, sister Marian Thomas, and Mother Marjorie Goodlad. He is survived and dearly missed by his sister Lynne McNeil; daughters Jennifer, Anita (Chris), and Robyn (Clay); grandchildren Kaitlynn (Josh), Jacob (Abi), and Kayden; and great-grandson Hayden; as well as his nephews, nieces and cousins.

The loss of Gord will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30-4:00PM on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Maple Bay Yacht Club, 6337 Genoa Bay Road, Duncan, BC.
