Bruce Ried Matthews

As well as his wife Karen, Bruce leaves to cherish his memories: his sons Ben (Lorry), Andy (Leah) and grandchildren Liberty, Burke, Nova and Nina as well as caring relatives and friends,

Bruce was predeceased by brother Robert, sister Susan, father Sidney (Jack) and Mother Ruth. Born September 4, 1946, in Yorkton, SK, Bruce was raised on a wheat farm in Duff, SK. He and his brother were active in the 4H Club, winning prizes for sprouting wheat, and other grains.

In 1965 he enrolled in electronic engineering at S.A.I.T in Calgary, AB. During that time, he also took flying lessons and ground school to receive his pilot’s license. Graduation from S.A.I.T, (Southern Institute of Technology) in 1967, Bruce worked for Lenkurt Electric CO. where he met Karen, a pretty little office worker. Married in 1969, Bruce and Karen moved to Edmonton, AB where Bruce began a long career with the Alberta Government Telephones, (now Telus). Bruce and Karen made a commitment of their lives to the Lord early in their marriage and became dedicated church members. In 1977 they adopted 3-month-old twin boys who they named Benjamins James and Andrew Norman Matthews.

In 1978 the family was transferred to Edson, AB and in 1980 the family was transferred to Calgary where Bruce attended classes at the Canadian Institute of Management, earing the designation of Professional Manager in 1993. Taking early retirement in 2000, Bruce and Karen moved to Duncan, BC and did volunteer work for the Alliance Church, under Mary Croswell. Bruce started his own business as a handyman. Bruce will be remembered for his skill at building or repairing anything and his very kind, compassionate heart.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00am, at New Life Community Baptist Church, Duncan BC. Luncheon to follow service.
