

It is with heavy hearts that the family of David Charles Kerridge announce his passing after a brief battle with cancer on Sunday, August 24, 2025, a month shy of his 90th birthday. He was born in Victoria, BC to parents Lawrence and Jean Kerridge.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Margaret, sons Colin (Nicole), Chris (Rachel) and Craig (Chrissy), four grandchildren and sister Barb.
David was a dedicated educator and naturalist, serving as the founding professor of biology at Malaspina College (VIU) in 1969. In 1987, he earned his PhD in Mammalogy, at Texas Tech University, furthering a lifelong interest for the study of wildlife – particularly bats, which earned him the affectionate nickname of “The Bat Man” on Vancouver Island.
After retiring in 1995, David embraced travel and adventure. David and Margaret’s journeys together as well as with family and friends, took them across the globe – from Mexico, New Zealand, England and Scotland to Israel and Egypt, an Amazon cruise, Costa Rica, the Bahamas for their 25th wedding anniversary, and seven trips to Australia.
David was a man of wide-ranging interests and deep commitments. He was a dedicated Mason for 48 years, attaining the 33rd degree. He served with distinction with as Airforce CIC, achieving the rank of Captain. He found joy in music, playing the French horn. At home, he cultivated beautiful gardens of flowers, veggies and fruits, delighting in the quiet rewards of growth and care.
David will be remembered for his curiosity about the world and everything in it, and most importantly, for his devotion and love for his family. He will be greatly missed.
Following David’s wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to British Columbia & Alberta Services Dogs.
