Donald Burton Dawes

Don was a gentle soul who especially loved those on the margins, giving whatever he had to help them. He loved art and worked the Chemainus mural project. He loved music and assisted several local artists launching their careers. Don could often be found shooting his own videos of family and special events.

Don was predeceased by his elder brother Harold and younger sister Barbara. He is survived by his twin brother David, younger brother Robert, many cousins, and grand nieces and nephews throughout B.C. and in Ontario.

Don grew up attending church at Brae Road Chapel with his family and then participated in youth group and church at New Life Baptist for many years. In his later years, Don attended City Gate Church with pastor Rick Dewhurst. A celebration of life will be held on July 26, 2025, at New Life Baptist Church at 1:30 PM. Tea and goodies will be available with open mic following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Imadene are gratefully appreciated. The Dawes family has a long history with Camp Imadene. Lewis and Pauline, Don’s parents served as caretakers and then Dave and Nancy served as administrators. Don also served as a care aid when needed. Address for cheques is Box 374, Mesachie Lake, B.C.
