Working at 14, she worked her way up to working at the inland revenue, which was really something, to achieve a job with the civil service and made her parents proud. It was while travelling on the overhead railway that she caught the eye of a handsome young man, Bill, who fell in love with her right away.
They married and made their first home in a pretty village in Gateacre. Liverpool. Paul and Brenda both have such happy memories of those early years, a tiny prefab with a garden filled with flowers. After years of being a stay at home Mum, Doris then worked for the British post office and she loved it. Always had such a head for figures, was a quick learner and so popular with all the customers and co workers.
In 1966 she came to Vancouver and fell in love with The New World. Her dream of moving here came a reality and a new life at 59 began!
She worked in Jane Ross books in White Rock for many years, a new career took off.
Mum made friends wherever she went, always a shining and happy light wherever she went. Loved to entertain, was never happier than being in company of family and friends. We had to share Mum with many of our friends, was invited to many occasions. She was Mum to many.
In her tender 70’s found happiness and romance with Jim, her soul mate and friend for many precious years. They both enjoyed lawn bowling and had a wonderful social life with all,the friends they made at Mann Park White Rock.
She took to knitting teddies for orphans all over the world, making children who had little, so happy. Thousands were sent, of which Mum made numerous. Each one had a happy smiling face as off they went.
Our thanks to all the staff at La Rosa Gardens in Ladysmith, Mum was so happy there. Plus all the kindness shown to Mum, from the staff in The Hospice.
