It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dwight. Dwight grew up in Youbou during simpler times when kids left home in the mornings and came back at supper time. They enjoyed swimming in the lake, climbing the mountain, playing pool, bowling and setting pins, and just hanging out in the Snack Bar.
Dwight enjoyed his life with his family, relatives and friends. His sons meant the world to him, and he was always happy to chauffeur them to school and sports events.
Dwight worked for many years at the Honeymoon Bay Mill and later retired (2002) at the Hammond Cedar Mill in Maple Ridge.
In the early days, he loved fishing, hunting, camping, travelling, bowling, golf and darts. Teaching his grandson Nash to play crib at the age of three was one of his happiest moments. He was always ready to play pool and any game of cards with anyone at any time. He always looked forwards to his weekly bridge night at the Senior’s Centre and Crib night at the Legion.
He leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his wife of 62 years Sonja, sons Shane (Robyn) and Brent. He was predeceased by his son Quint in 2018. Dwight was a wonderful husband and Dad, but he excelled at being the best Grampa ever to Nash, Adam, Rachael and Liam.
We would like to thank many friends and neighbours for their acts of kindness and very special thanks to Nurse Practitioner Stephanie and Nurse Sandy for their love, support and many visits to keep Dwight comfortable at home until the end. You both went well above and beyond. You are both truly amazing and Lake Cowichan is very fortunate to have you in our community.
