It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ethel Whittaker (Benny Mitchell) aged 102. She was born in 1924 in England and passed peacefully on July 23, 2026, at Cairnsmore Place in Duncan, BC.
She served in the Royal Air Force in WWII and came to Canada as a war bride. She is predeceased by her first husband Thomas Mitchell and her second husband George Whittaker, as well as three children Grant, Tommy and Jennifer. She is survived by two children, Ian (Pam) and Susan (Jock), 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many family members in England.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, as well as for her wit and cheeky personality.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful staff at Cairnsmore Place for their love and kindness shown over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with details to follow once arranged. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Society of BC or Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
