It is with heavy hearts, and immense gratitude for a life so fully lived, that we announce the passing of George Thomson on October 28, 2026. George passed peacefully at home, with his beloved wife Sandy by his side.
George was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Ethel Thomson, and his sister, Doreen. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Sandy, along with their four children: Grant, Andrea (Rudy), Gordon (Claudia), and Angela.
George considered himself incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by a growing family he adored. He was a proud grandfather to eight wonderful grandchildren: Robyn (James), Brandon, Jack, Kiera, Jeevan, Isabella, Nishaa, and Ivy, and an equally proud great-grandfather to Violet and Maguire.
Although George was born and raised in Vancouver, his heart always belonged in the country. He spent much of his adult life on the Cobble Hill property he cherished and was grateful to spend his final days in the place he loved most.
A retired Naval Petty Officer, George approached life with a strong sense of duty, hard work, and determination. Retirement simply gave him more time to tackle farm chores like straightening nails, picking up rocks and keeping his recycled treasures organized. After a hard day he loved sitting and looking out onto his land with a Labatt’s Blue in hand.
George had a gift for storytelling and an even greater gift for making people laugh. The sound of his laugh was unmistakable, his humour endless, and the twinkle in his eye unforgettable.
While we will miss his stories, his laughter, and his steady presence, we are comforted by the many memories he leaves behind. We are deeply grateful for every day, every conversation, and every moment we shared with him.
A service celebrating George's life will be held from 2-4pm on Friday, November 20, 2026, at First Memorial Duncan Hall, 375 Brae Road, Duncan, BC. The family kindly asks that any inquiries regarding the service be directed to First Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honour George's memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice in his name.
Fair winds and following seas, George. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered
