It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Harold Erling Hanson at the age of 86 at the Cowichan District Hospital on August 2, 2025. Predeceased by his parents, Ole and Anna Hanson, his wife Sally Ann Hanson (Rask), in-laws Swan and Ruth Rask, sister-in-law Karen Kingsley, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Harold is survived by his daughters Sherry Lawson (Dave) and Trudy Doxtator (Spencer), grandchildren Chelsea Lawson (Mathew Johnson), Tyler Doxtator, and great-granddaughter Mia Johnson.
Harold was born and raised in Stump Lake, Sask. At a young age, his mom taught him how to play three chords on a guitar, which he played at school concerts. He loved to sing and play guitar, entertaining friends and family at gatherings.
He married Sally in Oct. 1963 and Sherry was born the following year. When Sally was expecting their second child, Trudy, Harold went to B.C. to find work in Lake Cowichan. He got a job at the Youbou Mill, where he ran the sidewinder, feeding the mill with logs for 30+ years until his retirement.
He and Sally eventually settled in Mesachie Lake. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to old country music. He welcomed a good conversation with everyone he met. He was also very proud of his 30 years of sobriety.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cairnsmore Place for the two and a half years that he resided there and for taking such good care of him. Special thanks to Jamie for keeping his tins full for him. Also, we would like to thank his longtime good friend, Terry Rielly, for his faithful companionship and visits.
At Harold’s request, there will be no service. Forever loved and missed, until we meet again
