Helen is survived by her son Ian and grandsons Jeremy and Westley Harrison and her brother Jackie, who resides in Scotland. Sadly, her sister Sybil passed away just a few months before Helen passed.
Helen met her husband Hugo Stead whilst he was travelling in her hometown. In 1953 Helen moved to Canada with Hugo and were married. In Vancouver, they raised three sons, Gordon and Brian of which have passed early to cancer.
They then made the move to Duncan BC and enjoyed many years in their home on Escarpment Way. Helen was a member of the Highland dancer’s and local artist. Helen was also a devoted member of the Duncan lawn bowling club. And loved attending the dinner shows at Chemainus Theater with Hugo. Before Hugo became incapacitated, they were able to remain in their home thanks to the kindness, friendship and support of their neighbors Debbie and Cecil Thornwell.
After Hugo went into extended care Helen moved to Dove Hill House and then to Laural Place on the Mainland.
As Hugo passed during COVID arrangements were hard to do safely. So, we will be celebrating the lives of both Helen and Hugo in Duncan BC on Friday, July 4th, 2025. The burial will be family only, but there will be a gathering at Debbie and Cecil’s place at 3pm. Casual attire. The address is: 1739 Escarpment Way, Duncan BC. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. RSVPs should be directed to: [email protected]
