Jean Haddow (nee Lowrie)
SAKAWSKY
February 12, 1917 - October 7, 2010
Survived by sons Jim and Dale Sakawsky, daughter Sharon (nee Sakawsky), (Mowse) Bergman (Gene Bergman).
Jean was born in England towards the end of World War I and was raised in Didsbury, Alberta. She graduated from the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary in 1941 and worked as a Registered Nurse all over the Island and Interior of BC. She was widowed in 1959 by her husband Eric Sakawsky and moved her family to the Island in the early ‘60s. After retiring from nursing, she then worked in the post office in Shawnigan Lake until forced to retire at age 65.
She went on to volunteer with the Historical Society and bake numerous things for the Anglican Church’s women’s auxiliary. She enjoyed the little things in life and had a marvelous sense of humour right until the end. The family would like to thank Dr. Grimes and all the “worker bees” from Sun Ridge for their care and for making Mom’s last couple of months away from home tolerable. She was a true warrior in life and she will be sadly missed by her daughter Sharon, granddaughter Carly (Dennis) Kolk, grandsons Blair Bergman, Eric and Ryan Sakawsky, and great-grandson Mason Lewis Kolk.
Arrangements under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Duncan, BC.
