Joseph, lovingly known as Joe, passed away suddenly and tragically in Vancouver, while on his way to his very first cruise. A dream trip that he and his wife Rebecca had planned in celebration of their upcoming 30th anniversary.
Joe was born on March 22, 1958, at Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, AB. At 11 months old, he was welcomed into the loving arms of adoptive parents George and Edna Guenette.
He is survived by his devoted wife Rebecca, children Lisa Guenette (Andrew) and grandson Troy Simpson; son Jerrod Guenette and granddaughter Kaia Guenette; daughter Hannah Guenette (Brendon). Joe also left behind his brothers Richard and David Guenette and sister Mary Jean Alger, extended family Bill and Roberta Smith, sister-in-law Corinna Novack (John), and niece Bailey Novak (Bryce).
He also had four cats, Noelle, Ricky, Lucy and Lil’ Bit, who are really missing their cat dad.
In his early years, Joe explored many different careers, from driving cabs and buses, to hairdressing, and being a paramedic. For the last 30 years, he was involved in the family business, Cowichan Towing. He drove tow trucks, dispatched and eventually became office manager.
Joe loved his family fiercely, even if he didn’t always say it in words. He was immensely proud of his children and wife. He also had a deep love of animals of all kinds, cats, dogs, wildlife and sea life alike.
A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held from 11am - 4pm on October 11, 2025, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 5864 Indian Road, Duncan, BC (off Maple Bay Road). True to his spirit, the gathering will feature a hotdog BBQ. Tea, coffee, and water will be provided, as well as Coke Zero to share with Joe. If possible, please wear a wolf, bear, moose or eagle T-shirt, or if your favourite shirt or dress has a stain, he’d be happy to see you in that too.
Flowers are welcome. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC are appreciated.
