It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marlene Gay Campbell on October 17, 2026 at her home in Lake Cowichan, BC, at the age of 89.
Marlene is survived by her beloved husband, Kerry Campbell, children Scott Lervik, Susan Campbell and Michael (Liz) Campbell, grandchildren Shane George, Charli Campbell and Ryli Campbell, as well as extended family. She is predeceased by her parents Robert and Isabel Hutchison, daughter Linda George, grandson Cameron George and brother Bob Hutchison.
Born in Port Alberni, Marlene moved to Duncan with her two children and began a long and successful career in ladies fashion. It was in Duncan where Marlene met Kerry when they were introduced by Marlene’s best friend, who happened to be Kerry’s neighbour. They married in 1979, blended their families and spent the next 47 years happily married. Upon Marlene’s retirement, they sold their family home in Duncan to live at their cabin on Lake Cowichan and started a life of travelling. Marlene and Kerry saw the world together; going on many cruises, including to Russia and China, and spending time as snowbirds in Mexico every winter for 19 years. Marlene also received so much joy in the simple pleasures of life; such as reading a good book while drifting on the water of Lake Cowichan in their boat. Marlene will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
A Celebration of Marlene’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marlene’s memory may be made to the Genetic Aortic Disorders Association (GADA) of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
