Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose life was defined by love, generosity, and family. She raised 10 children, 7 of her own and 3 stepchildren – creating a home that was always open, warm and welcoming. No one ever left her table hungry or without feeling like family.
She was especially known for her legendary spaghetti and lasagne dinners which brought everyone around the table for laughter, conversation and connection. Family gatherings at Shirley’s home became treasured traditions that will be remembered forever.
Shirley is now reunited with the love of her life, Ron Bain, as well as her beloved granddaughter, Jessi, and son Sean. She is also welcomed by her 4 brothers and 7 sisters who went before her.
She is survived by her loving children. Daughters Sue (Norm), Liz, Cathy and her sons Gary and Bruce. Her bonus children, Blair (Marie), Brenda and Barret. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandson, extended family as well as her siblings, Butch, Carmel, Linda (Ern) and Brenda (Hardy).
Shirley’s legacy lives on in the family she built, the meals she shared and the unconditional love she gave so freely. She will be lovingly remembered by her friends at TOPS, Cobble Hill and her wonderful friends at Sherwood House. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
No service at Shirley’s request. A family BBQ will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cowichan Hospice House, Duncan, BC.
