He and his two children Douglas Neal French and Shannon Denise Truesdale were married to Terri Lee Hale on 5/31/1973. Together they created a new family that today consists of daughter in law Rebecca Joy French, 5 grandchildren – Robert Lee French, Misty Rhea Koerkenmeier and Shawn, Kristy Khea Hendricks and Jason, Melissa Emily Helle and Robert, and Trevor Christian Truesdale; As well as 8 great grandchildren – Jayce, Paris, Emily, Jenna, Ryan (his birthday buddy), Maggie, Maci and Harper- all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister Joan Turner and her husband Jerry. Charles was known by many names to different people – Dad, Papaw, Charlie, Big and Cookie to name a few.
He was almost always self-employed. He owned and operated auto parts stores, hauled sand and gravel and trained race horses at different times in his life.
He loved horses and horse racing, all Dallas sports teams, NASCAR, Law and Order, and the news - all of which he prerecorded and watched later while fast forwarding through the commercials which he hated. He never met a stranger and was liked by most everyone he met. He was out spoken and opinionated which he definitely passed down to his children and grandchildren. They are all just like him.
Charles had a quiet love of God and was secure in his faith.
We will love him always and will miss him every day until we see him again.
