David was born in Odessa TX on January 5, 1958. He passed away on May 5, 2019 as the result of a crash of a private plane near Santa Rosa, NM. David was preceded in death by his father, James Harold Collum, who died before David was born. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Deeann Collum, his son Wesley Thomas Taylor (Linda Owen), and his daughter, Sarah Louise Collum. He is also survived by his Mother, Betty David who is 91, as well as brother Jimmy Collum (Linda Collum), sisters Susie Collum, Shirley Collum, Karen David, and brother Bill David (Shira David) all in Odessa TX and multiple nieces and nephews. He is mourned by Kim’s parents, Glenda & Chuck Payne as well as her brother, Kenneth Payne and many friends.
David deeply loved his wife Kimberly and his children Sarah and Wesley. He loved spending time with them and with his birth family in Odessa. David’s favorite pastimes included woodworking and cooking: he learned to cook from his mother, Betty, who was the long-time proprietor of a family-owned café in Odessa. He loved to barbeque and to bake—and enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner for everyone.
David graduated high school in Odessa and attended college there. Since 2002, he worked for Chaparral Machinery with computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, doing installations and operational instruction as well as maintenance. He was traveling to Los Alamos, NM for a job when the accident occurred.
David was fortunate to travel to Japan and Israel for training on various machines, and loved talking about those trips. He was a scuba diver prior to his marriage, and loved Hawaii and Cayman.
David and Kim married October 6, 1990 and lived in Arlington TX and then in Duncanville TX. David loved being home and sharing time with his family, including his dogs. He was an awesome husband and Dad, and will be greatly missed. It is so hard to lose someone this loved in an instant.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. The Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019. There will be a reception to follow at the funeral home.
