

Emma was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on April 4th, 1914 to Joel and Zana Thomas.
She married Cecil Carter on November 2, 1931 and was married for 49 years prior to Cecil’s
death in 1980. Emma loved children and worked as a daycare teacher for 11 years from 1969
– 1980 at Cliff Temple Baptist Church. She was a member of Cliff Temple since 1967 and
served as a Sunday school teacher of young children for many years. She was a member of
Flora Chapter #794, Order of the Easter Star, for 47 years. She loved her family and enjoyed
the times when the family would get together. Emma is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy
Stolz, Betty Davis and son-in-law, Joe Davis, four of her five grandchildren, Sharon Shaw and
her husband Robert, Larry Stolz, Becky Cady and her husband Kim, and Kyle Davis and his wife
Monica. She was preceded in death by one of her grandchildren, Cindy Christian. Emma was
blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Brandon Shaw and wife De, Shannon Kenny and husband
Jeff, Laney Shaw and wife Meredith, Courtney Christian, Don Gadberry, Crystale Gadberry,
Candace Gadberry, Lauren, Christopher, and Madison Davis. Emma also has 11 great-great
grandchildren. Molly and Austin Shaw, Emma, Audrey and Hunter Kenny, Rheann and Ethan
Shaw, Brayden Christian, Bryson Antwine, Braelynn and Caedynn Andrews. Emma is also
survived by many nieces and nephews.
Emma’s family was blessed to have her in our lives for 100 years. She was loved by all and will
be missed by so many.
Emma was preceded in death by her previously mentioned parents, husband, granddaughter
and brothers W.B., Garvin, Woodard, Rex, James Thomas, and sister Ruth Smith.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Emma’s life at David Clayton Funeral Home in
Duncanville on May 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation on May 20th, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Burial will be at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.
