

Leonard Wood Hancock April 21, 1931 - May 4th, 2017 Leonard Wood Hancock, 86, passed away Thursday May 4th at his home in Dallas, Texas following a brief illness. He is proceeded in death by his father Fred Hancock Sr, mother Mildred Walker Hancock, brother Fred Jr. and sister Anita. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Hancock and his four daughters, Michelle Temple and husband Jim, Colette Peterson and husband Bill, Noelle Flowers and husband Mike, and Annette Taylor and husband Bobby; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; step-sister, Paula Skelton and many close friends and family. Leonard was born and grew up in Dallas. A lifelong Texan, he loved Dallas, the State Fair of Texas, helping others, reading and golf. An active leader in the Forest Avenue High School alumni group, he built and maintained lifelong relationships with his fellow Forest Avenue alumni. In his early years, Leonard worked the State Fair helping build the original Fletcher’s Corndog stand and selling Jacks French Fries. After graduating from Forest Avenue in 1948, Leonard joined the United States Army. After boot camp, he was assigned to active duty in Germany during the Korean Conflict and learned to shoot missiles on the Baltic Sea. After completing his service in the United States Army, Leonard received his electronics degree from Elkins Institute and began a career in radio as an electronics instructor and engineer. He was the chief engineer at KNUS radio. He retired as a securities broker. Leonard was most proud of his family. He met the love of his life Jacqueline in 1953 and they built a house in Oak Cliff for their family that they still call home today. Leonard had a heart as big as Texas. He was funny and generous, never met a stranger and was known for making friends in every place he visited, as he and Jacqueline traveled the country and abroad. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 10th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville, Texas from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Rosary will be at 7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 11th at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Committal Service will be held on Thursday May 11th at 2:00 PM at the DFW National Cemetery at Mountain Creek. In leiu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
