Mr. Smith was born in Birdsboro, Pa. and served in the US Army in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper in 1944 and 1945 when he was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. He was employed as a heavy equipment salesman and retired in 1988.
Mr. Smith was followed in death by his wife of 49 years Norma H. Smith 17 days later. He is survived by his two sons Gerald S. Smith Jr. and Kerry A. Smith, and adopted son David G. Smith. One grandchild Lindy Hurd and two great grandchildren Madeline and Hayden Hurd.
