Mr. Arthur B Hudson was born on November 24, 1927 in Johnston County the son of the late Arthur Hudson and Myrtle Strickland Hudson of Benson. Mr. Hudson was married to Mary Adams Hudson of Four Oaks for 57 years prior to her passing in 2005.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Virginia “Pete” Hudson Hodges and Jeanette Hudson Stewart; brothers, Leroy Hudson and Donald Ray Hudson.
Arthur was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in World War II.
Arthur B Hudson, known by many as Art, was a successful entrepreneur. He was best known for owning Art’s Grill and Bar where Miss Mary would serve the best hotdogs, and he would serve you a cold beer with a good joke to go along with it.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and even owned and operated a bait and tackle shop for several years.
He was the founder of Hudson’s Jewelry Store in 1982 and he was a self-taught jewelry repairmen and engraver. He enjoyed working side by side with his daughter Donna until she took over the ownership and he moved on to other business ventures.
Arthur was known for “Art’s Famous Homemade Fudge,” which he and his wife cooked in their own kitchen. He traveled across the state selling his fudge to different markets and businesses.
He was known for always having a good joke, entertaining others with card and magic tricks and usually winning a chess match or checker game. He loved to share stories from his life experiences. He had an excellent memory and often reflected on days of old when talking with others.
As he was nearing the end of time on earth, he said, “we are all feathers in the breeze; and I am ready to float away.”
He is survived by: Daughters: Linda Hudson Johnson & (husband) Lynwood of Benson, NC; Donna Faye Hudson Pope & (husband) Jimmy of Coats, NC.
Grandchildren: Lisa Embrey Hinson & (husband) Terry, Tallie Johnson, Derek Pope, Candace Pope & Toby McDonald and Kevin Pope.
Great Grandchildren: Jacob Roberson, Adam Roberson and Tyler McDonald.
Sister: Sandra Jean Hudson Gambrell of Florida and many Nieces and Nephews.
A Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home of Jimmy and Donna Pope, 591 William Road, Coats, NC 27521
There will be a private graveside at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Liberty Hospice for their love, care and support to Mr. Hudson and the family especially since January 25th when a fall caused him to lose his independence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Hudson’s memory to Liberty Hospice at 105 Hunt Valley Drive, Dunn, NC 28334
