

Mr. Eden Daniel “Tuff” Hawkins, 86, of Linden died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born March 14, 1928 in Cumberland County, son of the late William Reese Hawkins and Eva Barefoot Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jackson Hawkins, a son, Eden Daniel “Danny” Hawkins, Jr., three brothers, Fred Thomas Hawkins, Warren G. Hawkins and William Allen Hawkins, and two sisters, Ruby Florence Hawkins Goins and Lola Pearl Hawkins Gainey. Mr. Hawkins was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the 599th Battalion Battery in Germany during the Korean War. He worked for D.W.C. Construction for many years and then worked for Player Construction. He was a member of Collier’s Chapel Church in Linden where he held a perfect attendance record in Sunday school for 46 years. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at Collier’s Chapel Church with Rev. Johnny Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Collier’s Chapel Church Cemetery. He is survived by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Hawkins Jackson of Linden, a daughter-in-law, Judy Lucas Hawkins of Linden, three grandchildren, Daniel W. Hawkins, Jennifer Hawkins Ditmore and husband Eric all of Linden and Melissa Hawkins Britt and husband Paul of West Palm Beach, FL, four great grandchildren, Aiden, Rylan and Easton Ditmore and Elijah Britt, and many nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Sue Giles and Gail Hair. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home in Dunn.
