Marilyn Stewart Matthews

Marilyn was born on May 16, 1933 in Harnett County the daughter of the late McKinley R. Stewart and Irene McLamb Stewart and is preceded in death by Sisters, Maggie Smith, Inez Carroll and Ella Parker and Great Grandchildren, Christopher Ryals and Amelia Sealey.

She was a member of Leslie Methodist Church and worked in the cafeteria at Mary Stewart School and then at Harnett Primary School before retiring. But she never really retired, she sold fresh brown eggs on the radio, she became known as the “Brown Egg Lady”. Marilyn was raised on the family farm where she was born and farming was always her family’s way of life. She with her husband and children carried on that tradition. Family was very important to her from her children down to the last Great Great Grandchild.

She was calling to check on the sick in her neighborhood and always carrying food to homes during sickness. She loved her neighborhood and cared about everyone.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Tart, Rev. Wanda Berrier officiating. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens.

She is survived by: Her Husband of almost 70 years, Charles C. Matthews of the home.

Children: Mike Matthews & (wife) Carolyn of Dunn, NC; Deborah Beasley & (husband) Bobby of Dunn, NC; Charlette Jones & (husband) Ernie of Dunn, NC; Marchie Ken Matthews & (wife) Stephanie of Dunn, NC and Kim Dunn & (husband) Scott of Benson, NC.

Grandchildren: Michael Matthews (Sherry) of Benson; Shannon Massengill (Brent), of Benson; Russell Matthews of Dunn; Charlene Tart (Ray) of Benson, Irene Stewart (Jamie) of Benson; Bobby Beasley, Jr. (Kristie) of Dunn; Ernie Jones, III, of Dunn; Lywisa Gainey (Josh) of Dunn; Ashley Sealey (Eric) of Dunn; Marchie Austin Matthews (Chezney) of Dunn; Savanna Matthews (Naylor) of Dunn; Hanna Williams (Brandon) of Benson & Sidney Dunn (Aaron) of Benson.

Great Grandchildren: Lee Anna, Chloe, Calli Jon, Claire, Baleigh, Chase, Abby, Matthew, Anthony, Jeremy, Casey, Steven, Jaelyn, Greyden, Hannah, Levi, Madison, Luke, Delaney, Everley, Lofton, Caine, AnaGray, Kinlee & Walker.

The family will receive friends Saturday Evening from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home.
