Dr. Francis J. “Frank” Cain, a longtime Eggertsville dentist, died Monday at his Amherst home. He was 90.
Born in Brooklyn, he served in the U.S. Army 78th Infantry Division during World War II, including campaigns through Belgium and Germany and participation in the battles of Hurtgen Forest and Remagen.
In 1948, following his military service and while completing his undergraduate degree at Pennsylvania State University, he married the former Mary Carroll. He went on to earn a doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Buffalo Dental School in 1954. After completing his internship at Meyer Memorial Hospital, he practiced dentistry at his office at 3985 Main St., Eggertsville, from 1955 until 2000.
He was a member of the 8th District Dental Association, the American Dental Association, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society.
Working with his hands was a lifelong avocation and he was always willing to share his knowledge, skills, tools and talent with family and friends.
Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by a son, Joseph; seven daughters, Margaret McCarthy, Jean Dengler, Mary Cadrot, Eileen Sherman, Ann Nusbaum, Kathleen Marynowski and Maureen Adams; 25 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 30 Lamarck Drive, Amherst.
