Carol Ann Nowack (nee Norman) died February 28, 2020. She was 77. Born July 18, 1942 in West Falls to Joseph and Helen Norman, she lived the rest of her life in East Aurora. She worked at National Fuel Gas when she met a young man recently back from Vietnam and told her mother that evening that she met the man she was going to marry.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, James Philip, daughters Cynthia Nowack and Karen (Gary) Richmond, and granddaughters Alexandria and Alexis Richmond.
Family was very important to Carol. She spent countless hours helping out at her daughters’ school and attending many plays, recitals and games. She enjoyed being a homemaker.
Carol was well-known in the East Aurora community through many years as a waitress at various restaurants and an active member of the Immaculate Conception parish. She was also a member of the EAFD Auxiliary for 25 years. She volunteered for many years at the Fireman’s Field Ox Roast and enjoyed her time visiting the elderly in the community.
Carol enjoyed her Tuesday morning bowling league for 40 years, and was always reading, doing word searches or watching her favorite tv shows, General Hospital and Big Valley. She loved baking, but also equally enjoyed giving her baked goods away to friends. She enjoyed making chocolates and peanut clusters during the holidays. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband up and down the east coast and spending winters in Arizona with daughter, Cynthia. Favorite travel spots included Plymouth MA, Bar Harbor ME and Sedona AZ.
Her family and friends remember her quick and genuine smile, laughter and generous spirit. She had a welcoming nature and kept in touch with many friends, far and wide.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 3-6pm at the Wood Funeral Home, 784 Main Street, East Aurora, where funeral services will follow at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation New York and New Jersey. Online condolences and donations may be shared at www.woodfh.com.
