In the early 1990's, I was a confused and lowly chiropractic intern at CMCC.  Dr. Ray Sherman was a clinician there at that time.  To my surprise, he was a very approachable, helpful, funny and respectful clinician.  His person made me feel so comfortable that during this stressful period Dr. Sherman was literally a bright light in the windowless, basement CMCC outpatient clinic.  Eventually I built up quite a rapport and friendship with Dr. Sherman and we even had a game of tennis one afternoon.  I even gave him the nickname "Sherman Tank" which he didn't seem to mind.  I left my internship at CMCC confident and with my head held high.  Dr. Sherman made things better for me.

Now, 20 Years later, I was deeply saddened to learn that Dr. Sherman had passed away.  Upon much reflection, I can sincerely say that Dr. Ray Sherman was truly a "gentleman" in every sense of the word.  To some it may sound cliché but my life experiences tell me otherwise.  He is truly a unique and special person that one rarely meets in life.  This time - our paths crossed too briefly.  Next time - I am determined that our paths will not just cross.  I need to learn a lot more from Dr. Ray Sherman.

Ray opened his practice to me in 1991 which taught me so much about Chiropractic, living a balanced life and of course allowed me to experience the beauty of Australia. He was always positive and a great guy to share time with. His presence in my life had a huge impact. Thank you Ray

Meeting Dr Ray 20 years ago was one of those rare "sliding door" turning points in my life when he gave me the opportunity to run his practice in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. To say that this changed my life both professionally and personally would be an understatement! I later had the privilege of working with Dr Ray for several years and continue to see many of his loyal happy patients. Ray's professional and caring attitude as well as his excellent clinical skills and unique sense of humor did not go unnoticed by all he came into contact with. Many thanks Ray, you will be greatly missed.

I too have many fond memories.  I first met Ray in 1985 as a patient and subsequently worked with him as his CA for many years.  He was an amazing chiropractor and was highly respected by his patients and his peers.  He adored his family and was very proud of them.  Ray was one of the characters of this world with a wicked sense of humour.  My thoughts are with Melissa & Tony, Mardi & Jason, Donna and the grandchildren.

As Donna's good friend, I knew Ray in high school. What a great guy he was! Please accept my condolences at this sad time. I'm sure he will be missed by all who loved him.

Dr Ray Sherman had a profound influence on the students that graduated from CMCC. I remember him fondly and appreciated his keen wit, as well as his passion and excitement that he shared with us on a daily basis.

Farewell Ray

You brought me so much joy at a critical point in my life. 10 years old, just lost my father and your compassion and humour let me escape.
Typically with you to a movie or dinner overlooking the sea somewhere in Sydney's northern beaches. 

As much as this was for me, I eventually grew to see this was equally to give space for my grieving mother. Your spirit and smile has remained with me 
since, and will do forever. And your love of film was contagious and rubbed off on me ;)

When I met Ray, he was a clinic director at CMCC and a frequent visitor to the library.  Tennis was Ray's passion. He was very competative and we played frequently during his stay in Toronto. On weekends he played at  his sister's Country Club. Students loved Ray, and while in Australia, he would send congratulatory messages to the graduating classes, which were read at Convocations. In 2010, Ray attended his 50th class reunion. We were thrilled to see him and to have time with him reminiscing.   Ray will be remembered as a fighter and a giant in his field of expertise. He will be  greatly missed.

Ray Sherman was the light at the end of the tunnel formany of us at CMCC in the late 70's.  His positive perspective on everything about the profession, together with his respect for students as colleagues brought him adulation from all of us that he taught.  His legacy lives through the practices of his students.

Ray was a breath of fresh air around CMCC when I attended in the late 1970's. He set a high standard that he insisted all interns achieve and maintain. Some educators will choose to teach with intimidation and fear, but not Ray..... his disarmingly mischievous manner, cunning whit and ever-present sense of humour ensured that interns relaxed in his presence, but were always keen to meet and exceed his expectations of the them. I shall remember with fondness the playful twinkle that Ray always had in his eyes and his choice to lead with a carrot rather than a stick! I admired his broad base of practical, experience based knowledge, so willingly shared; and I appreciated his down-to-earth interactions with the interns. My condolences to his family on his passing.

A guy couldn't ask for a better friend, teacher, colleague and mentor. Ray Sherman enriched our education at CMCC and made everyone proud to be a chiropractor. He motivated all his students to excel in every aspect of life.

Ray was a pioneer on taking the highest quality diagnostic radiographs. We were fortunate he visited us at the LACC in the early 1990s. He taught us more about how to achieve quality radiographs in 1 week than any other time in my career. His lessons positively influenced the way I look and think about a radiograph. He insisted on near perfect diagnostics, something I don't see very often today.

Ray had a very kind and caring way in dealing with folks and his relentless good humour was instantly contagious making all who knew him better just for knowing him.  Working along side Ray in clinic was a pleasure.  I recall our CMCC Clinic Ray Sherman "Roast" (Dean Martin Style) back in ~1977 and any 'criticism' by several of the speakers in that setting was difficult as he was just too nice a guy to roast. He was a one-of-a-kind keeper and is missed!

My fondest memories of Ray were the days he was clinic diredor at CMCC.  He asked me to treat his neck.  I was just an intern...and he trusted me.  May he rest in peace...he is in a place of no pain, no suffering, no angst.

Please accept my sympathies and condolences on the passing of Dr. Sherman. I worked with him for many years at CMCC and will never forget his happy smile.  He genuinely loved people and was always able to provide an uplifting comment when it was needed.  A great man, indeed!

Whether Ray was covering a shift at Crossways (2340 Dundas St W) or coming up from the basement clinic at Bayview or roaming the halls at Leslie ., Ray was always a welcome sight in the x-ray department.  A talented clinician/educator with a bright smile, quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.  He made my years at CMCC most enjoyable.  Great laughs, good chats, and many cherished moments with Ray.

My condolences on the passing of Dr Sherman. He was probably my favorite instructor at CMCC. I say probably because there were several great people there at that time.  He was one of them.  He was definetly my favorite fun guy. We had lots of laughs together, just he and I. I'll miss him.

My deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Sherman.  Ray was one of my teachers at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.  He was an excellent chiropractor and Director of our Clinic.  He inspired myself and many of my colleagues to be the best we could be.  He was a good friend to me in later years.  I appreciated his fine sense of humor and his strong sense of integrity.  I will miss him greatly.
