Born January 11, 1928, in Buffalo, NY, Edward grew up working in his family’s candy shop, where he spent many hours behind the counter—and enjoyed his fair share of ice cream. After graduating from East Aurora High School, he began a career that ultimately led him to Bethlehem Steel, where he worked for many years as a machinist.
From 1950 to 1952, he served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Edward was one of seven siblings—Faye, Shirley, Charlotte, Audrey, Joyce, and Ron—and valued the closeness of his large family.
In 1950, he married Gloria Reifstek, with whom he raised two children, Robert and Louise Thrun.
Edward retired in 1984 and spent much of his retirement enjoying his home, tending to his garden, and spending time with family. He was an exceptional neighbor, a dedicated follower of the news, and a loyal Buffalo Bills fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Louise Crawley; her husband, David; and his grandson, Eric (Jenny) and two cherished great grandchildren, Maxwell and Lyanna. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, patience, and decency.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, December 13th, 10 AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated and encourage donations to SPCA Serving Erie County.
