

Jay T. Hurlburt of East Aurora, New York passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 2, 2025. Beloved husband of 38 years to Cheryl K. (nee Wright); devoted father of Kevin Hurlburt and Kelly (Matt) Demitro; loving step father of Stacy (Matt) Wendroff and Alison (Greg) Bearer; cherished grandfather of Joseph, Jakob and Jaysa Demitro, Nathan and Ian Wendroff, Sadie and Nolan Bearer; dear brother of Jean (late Vern) Thompson, Gail Webb, William (Cathie) Hurlburt and the late John Hurlburt; also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering is being planned for late July 2025.
A veteran, Jay served his country with honor stationed in Germany. His commitment to public service continued as he worked for the State of New York as an Employee Relations Representative for the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) for over 35 years.
In retirement, Jay found a new calling with Habitat for Humanity providing homes for those in need. He also volunteered his time to CASA, where he advocated for the best interests of children who had experienced abuse or neglect, often those in foster care. Jay was a platelet donor for many years. His passion for helping others left a lasting impact on many lives.
Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Jay enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He found joy in gardening, running, skiing,and camping with his family in the beautiful Adirondacks. Golfing was another favorite pastime, where he often spent time with friends and family.
Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his passion, dedication, and love for life. He is survived by friends and family, who cherish the memories they shared with him.
