

Chanel Cyr 67, beloved husband of Paulette Ann (Gamelin) Cyr and longtime resident of East Hartford passed away peacefully on Friday May 7, 2010 at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. He was born in Madawaska, ME on November 26, 1942 son of the late Rosaire and Alma (Chasse) Cyr. He wed his loving wife Paulette of 44 years on November 1, 1965 in Hartford and raised their family in East Hartford. Chanel enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden, maintaining his impeccable lawn and wood working, creating many pieces of furniture for his family. Both Chanel and Paulette are longtime communicants of Blessed Sacrament Church and they loved to travel to Vermont, Maine and Lake George. Chanel was a talented stone and brick mason creating infinite structures of art. Along with his wife Paulette he is survived by his three daughters Ann Marie St. Peter of East Hartford, Michelle Szeluga and her husband Ray of East Hartford, and Pauline Kinney and her fiancé John Villardi of Lebanon: his three cherished grandchildren Ashley and Austin Kinney and Emily Szeluga: four brothers Roger Cyr and his wife Sue, Edmond Cyr, Bob Cyr, Gerald Cyr and his wife Gaetane: his sister Rowena Macomber: and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides both his parents he was predeceased by his brother Roland Cyr.
A Mass of Christian Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday May 12th at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 36 Cambridge Drive, East Hartford with Rev. James Nock officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Calling hours will be on Tuesday May 11th from 4-8 p.m. at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT.
