

Ted graduated from Brooklyn Tech HS in engineering and joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 for a tour in the Mediterranean and North Africa aboard the USS Warrington DD 843. Upon return to N.Y. Ted pursued his education, graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Economics from Wagner College and an M.B.A. with high honors in Finance from N.Y.U. Ted was awarded the Marcus Nadler Gold Key and membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. Later on he would receive the Ludwig von Mises fellowship in Economics for further postgraduate studies at N.Y.U. His career in finance and investments included work for New York Trust Co and after moving to Connecticut; GH Walker, Estabrook and White Weld & Co. Mid-career, Ted enjoyed teaching at Central Connecticut State University as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance and at retirement as Professor Emeritus in the College of Continuing Education.
In Brooklyn, NY, Soccer was a prominent sport. Sunday afternoon was a gathering time for European teams to play and compete. It was at one of these occasions that Ted met Ruth. They dated, fell in love and married in October 1955. In January 1956 Ted and Ruth moved into their newly constructed home and lived there together for 58 years. Their three children were born there, Carolyn, David and Laura educated in Glastonbury and subsequently married with children of their own. Carolyn’s family in Denver, CO, Laura’s family in Williamsburg, VA and David who lovingly cared for both his parents at home.
As a young boy, Ted spent summers sailing on Columbia Lake with his relatives the Miller Family. His love of the water and boating continued throughout his life with sailing competitions on his Sunfish, waterskiing with his children on Spofford Lake in NH and cruising down the Ct. River with his son David and Ruth. When Ted was a young man he found time for roller dancing and folk dancing with the Norwegian Folk Dance Club in Brooklyn; having a chance to perform at Radio City Music Hall and for visiting dignitaries from Norway. During his life he embraced diverse activities that provided enjoyment for himself and all those around him including skiing at Stratton, camping in NH, violin collecting, travels to the Alps and visiting local auctions.
Ted is survived by his children and their families: Carolyn and Mark Wieber, grandchildren Nicholas, Kristen, Alec and Jaclyn. Laura and James Brunson, grandchildren Victoria and Christopher. David Johnson, Sr., devoted son and caregiver, also grandson David Jr. Ted also leaves behind brother-in-law Kenneth Christiansen and his children Louise, Ken Jr., Lynn Joy and their families. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ruth A. Johnson.
Friends may visit and attend a period of visitation on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 11am-1pm at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk., Glastonbury, CT. 06033 followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Service at the funeral home and burial in Green Cemetery, Glastonbury.
