Jean Ann Haas, 77, beloved wife for 48 years to Robert Anthony Haas, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, after a long illness, she has gone to join her father and mother, Gene and Mary Louise Rossi, in Heaven. Jean was born on January 22, 1934, in Hartford, Connecticut, and remained a lifelong resident of the city of East Hartford. Jean was a graduate of East Hartford High School in 1951 and graduated from Bay Path College.
Jean dedicated her life to her family and garnered the most enjoyment from raising her children, John, Michael, Michelle, Deborah and Ann-Marie. What others would consider a personal sacrifice, Jean treasured the times that she was able to dote on her family, friends and many pet animals. She had a particular affinity for helping others and selflessly donated her time and energy to those around her. Jean saw the best in everyone and greeted all with an open heart and in a nonjudgmental way, especially those less fortunate that herself. Jean was known as “Mom” to those whom she showered with love and generosity. She will be remembered with fondness for her loyalty and devotion to her family, her compassion and patience for others, and her ability to appreciate and treasure even the smallest things in life. She enjoyed golf and belonged to a bowling league. Despite her love for card playing, “Jeopardy”, the UCONN basketball teams and the New York Giants, nothing could circumvent the burning passion that she held for her lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox. She felt a great sense of relief and completeness when the Sox finally won the World Series in 2004 and could be quoted as saying, “I can die happy now.” Jean spent many years managing her mother’s illness while still raising her family and working in her home. She enjoyed spending time in summer with her Aunt Anna and Uncle Al when they visited from Florida as well as her cousin, Margie Ann Gabriel from Pittsburgh, with whom she was very close. Jean will miss her best friends, Sally McIntyre of Bloomfield, with whom she spoke with every day and who lovingly spent time with her during her illness, and Karen Daigle of Stafford Springs, with whom she enjoyed many frequent outings.
Funeral services for Jean will be held on Thursday, December 15th at 10am with Father Roy from St. Rose Church officiating at the Benjamin J. Callahan & Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Jean's family would like to express their thanks for those that kept Jean in their prayers during this time.
