

John Paul St. Onge, 88 beloved husband of 63 years and 9 months to Simone St. Onge and both longtime East Hartford residents, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 14, 2011. He was born on July 9, 1922 in Biddeford, Maine son of the late Oliver and Ida (Lavoie) St. Onge. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Corp during World War II. John and Simone are longtime parishioners of St. Christopher Church. He was employed by Hamilton Standard for twenty years and then he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for over twenty six years, retiring in 1988. He loved fishing, playing cards and cribbage, but mostly spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren. He was a very generous and happy gentleman who had a contagious smile.
He is survived by his wife Simone St. Onge of East Hartford: two sons Robert St. Onge and his wife Kimberly of Middletown and Ronald St. Onge of East Hartford: his four grandchildren Brian St. Onge and his wife Heather, Adam St. Onge and his wife Lauren, Steven St. Onge and Stephanie Deming and her husband Ryan: his three great granddaughters Sumara, Nora and Sidney St. Onge: special cousins Roger and Ester Lavoie, a brother in law, Lenard Michaud and his wife Beatrice and his canine friend Cocoa: along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Darlene St. Onge
Funeral services will be Wednesday, (Jan 19th) at 9:30 AM from the Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford followed by a 11AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford, CT, 06118. Burial with military honors will follow in Veterans Memorial Field of Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Calling hours will be Tuesday, (Jan 18th) from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. John’s family would like to thank all the nurses, hospice and staff at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation for all their care over the last few years.
