Steven Lee Winick, 72, of Sterling and formerly of Chaplin, loving husband of over 45 years to Glenda Joy (Hanson) Winick, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at his home. Born in Hartford on August 2, 1950, a son of the late Bernard J. and Pauline (Gordon) Winick, he was a resident of the Sterling/Chaplin area for the past 40 years. Steven was a graduate of William H. Hall High School in West Hartford, class of 1968. He was then drafted and was a proud Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War where he was a photo interpreter. In 1973, he continued to serve his country for the next two years as a member of the Air Force Reserves. After his honorable discharge, he earned his Bachelor’s degree with distinction in Industrial Engineering from the University of Connecticut after only three years. He started his career at Sealy Mattress Company and later worked at Helikon custom furniture company as their plant manager. In 1989 he started Land & Sea Sports in Hampton where he retired and sold the business in 2015. In his free time, Steven was a talented woodworker and built his own furniture that his wife designed for their home. He also liked to hunt, fish, and boat. He truly enjoyed doing several things with his wife Glenda, especially antiquing, traveling, and gardening. Most of all, Steven wants to be remembered by those who knew him, as a hard worker and good provider for his family.
Along with his wife, Steven is survived by a daughter, Candace “Candy” Burski and her husband Chad of Norwich; two brothers, Jeffrey R. Winick and his wife Linda of West Hartford, David B. Winick of Freehold, NJ; a granddaughter, Maddy Sabo; three nephews, a niece and their families; several former customers and dear friends.
