Ann Matheny Feldman, age 85, passed away on Friday, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Dorian, her son Jeffrey, and her brother Robert Matheny. She is survived by her children Sharon (Louis Porter), Brian (Merrill Philips), and Mark, grandson John, and nephews Mike, Dan, and Mark Matheny.
Ann grew up in San Francisco where she attended Saint Rose Academy. Upon graduation, Ann enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science and pursued graduate work in Economics. In 1961, Ann moved to East Lansing when Dorian accepted a teaching job in the Statistics Department at Michigan State University.
After raising her children, Ann worked as an Undergraduate Advisor in the Economics Department at MSU. She loved to travel – touring Europe with two great friends after college and later with her family. She and Dorian spent many happy months in Italy after they both retired. Ann was known by many for her gourmet cooking and love for entertaining. She was also artistic, designing her family’s East Lansing home in the California style she loved. Her other creative pursuits included weaving, needlepoint, and ikebana.
Ann’s children will be forever grateful for the kind and loving care she received from the staff of Hospice of Lansing, Stoneleigh residence.
A memorial service will be held on May 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the University Club of Michigan State University, 3435 Forest Rd., Lansing.
