Ashild Rodsaetre Thompson

Ashild Rodsaetre Thompson, 55, passed away peacefully at her home in East Lansing, Michigan, due to complications from Parkinson's disease and respiratory failure. Born on June 9, 1969, in Porsgrunn, Norway, she was the beloved daughter of Roald Larsen and Karin Synøve Rodsaetre.

Ashild’s passion for music and helping others was evident throughout her life. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College and later pursued a Master of Music and post-bachelor studies in music therapy at Michigan State University. Her career reflected her dedication to improving lives through music and care. She worked as a music therapist at the MSU Community Music School and as a case manager for Community Mental Health, where she was recognized as Employee of the Month for her outstanding contributions.

Ashild lived in Langangen, Norway; Northfield, Minnesota; and East Lansing, Michigan, leaving a legacy of kindness and determination wherever she went. She valued family and friends above all else and found joy in cooking and spending time with loved ones. Her thoughtful and selfless nature touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Mark Thompson, whom she married on May 16, 1996, at the Lutheran Church in Langangen, Norway. She is also survived by her father, Roald Larsen; brother, Jon Rodsaetre; sister-in-law, Laila Laila Kristoffersen Rodsaetre; niece, Karin Rodsaetre; and nephew, Kristoffer Rodsaetre. Ashlid was predeceased by her mother, Karin Synøve Rodsaetre, who passed away on January 28, 1997.

Ashild will be laid to rest in Norway, honoring her deep connection to her homeland. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her. May her life serve as an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to share in it.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on January 9, 2025 at Gorsline Runciman East Lansing Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. East Lansing, Michigan; with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
