Ben Weeks

Our beloved John Brian (Ben) Weeks joined our heavenly Father on July 24, 2018 at the age of 67. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and a very proud alumnus of Lansing Gabriels High School and Alma College. He was born on November 27, 1950 to Dr. Earl and Leone (Watko) Weeks. He grew up in Detroit and eventually moved to Lansing. He was an outstanding football defensive lineman in high school earning many honors along the way. He went to Alma College to continue his football career and was inducted into the Alma College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017, of which he was especially proud. He graduated from the College of Education from Alma College and went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University and shared his love of teaching and coaching in the Lansing School District for 36 years. He also owned and operated many businesses before his retirement in 2012. Ben held the Detroit Red Wings, Lions and Tigers near and dear to his heart, but his favorite time was spent with Margaret (his high school sweetheart) and the kids and grandkids at his beloved cottage on the St. Clair River. Many hours were spent watching the freighters and tubing down the river. For generations, the yearly Fourth of July celebration at the cottage was the highlight of Ben’s summer.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl, Jr. (Sandy) and Tom and sister Dr. Susan Conley Weeks, in-laws Pasquale and Jeanette Coscarelli, brother-in-law Richard Fata, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the love of his life, Margaret (Coscarelli); his beloved sons, Dr. Brian (Amy), Daniel (Stephanie) and Josh (Elizabeth) and his 8 grandchildren that he adored, Macy, Brayden, Gabrielle, Alexander, Madelina, Anne, Davis and Jake. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Marie Fata, Joe Coscarelli, Darrel and Judy Swain and Jerry and Sue Coscarelli, as well as special friends, Dan Duffy, Frank Madaski, Bill Montgomery, Charlie Spadafore and Doug Stacks and many additional nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 1st at 10:00 am at St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing, MI with the Rev. Father Michael Murray officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31st at Gorsline Runciman in East Lansing from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association or Alma College Department of Athletics in memory of Ben.
