David was a 1980 graduate of Okemos High School and attended Ferris State University.
He traveled throughout the United States living, working and making many friends along the way. His favorite places to live were Mackinac Island, Block Island, and Hilton Head before settling in Elk Rapids where he met his best friend, Tricia Schneider.
He loved family, music, dogs, and especially boating. Most days, rain or shine, David could be found on his prized possession, the “Julie Eileen.”
He had a bigger than life personality, always entertaining and amazingly kindhearted.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Martin; sisters, Patricia Whitener and Pamela (Mike) Knowles; partner, Tricia Schneider; nieces, Laura (Nick) Mantzoros, Elise Whitener, Beth Whitener, Kelsey Knowles, and nephew, Jack Knowles. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Martin; sister, Julie; and canine companion, Reilly.
A memorial service will be held on July 14, 2018 at 1 p.m. at 11118 Summertime Trail, Williamsburg, Mich. A reception will follow the service.
Those desiring may make contributions in memory of David to an animal shelter of their choice.
