Diane Marie Ball

Diane was born July 30, 1949, in Morenci, Mich., to Robert and Rachel Jacqueline (Barret) Green. She married Richard Ball of Grand Rapids, Mich., on Sept. 11, 1971, in Morenci, and he survives.

After graduating from Morenci Area High School, she earned a degree in social work from Michigan State University.

Diane was active in community service projects and was devoted to her children. She served as a deacon and elder of her church for three years in each position. She also served on a variety of church committees and for many years administered the church’s Friendship Program, which catered to adults with special needs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Bible study, mission trips with her church, camping and sitting on the dock with family, neighbors and friends at the family cottage on Gun Lake.

In addition to her husband, Richard, and parents, Bob and Jackie Green, Diane is survived by three daughters, Lisa (and Travis) Schmid of Marietta, GA, Megan (and Seth) Murphy of Atlanta, GA., and Janell Ball of Detroit., MI.; three brothers, David (and Colleen Leddy) Green of Morenci, Dan Green of Seattle, Wash., and Thomas (and Ginny) of Mahtomedi, Minn.; and one granddaughter, Evelyn Diane Murphy. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 at River Terrace Church in East Lansing, www.riverterrace.org.
