

Don retired from MSU in 2009 after 30 years of service as a professor in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. He was active in the Greater Lansing Orchid Society and Chairman of the Great Lakes Judging Center. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed cultivating daylilies. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his loving family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his his father, Donald Lee Garling, Sr., and brother, Richard Garling. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Kris Garling; son Charles Garling; daughter Emily (Cody) Chapman; two grandchildren, Madalyn and Ethan Chapman; mother, Carolyn Joyce Garling; sister, Pam (Jeff) Shaw; cousins, Roberta and Steve Draughn; sister-in-law, Shirley Garling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Martha Parish, 1100 W. Grand River Ave, Okemos, with the Rev. Jonathan Wehrle officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. They will also receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will take place in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos. Contributions may be made to Great Lakes Judging Center, 277 N.
