Edward Lee Alex, Sr., passed away on 5/28/2026. He was born on 9/22/1950 in Camden, Texas, to Mary Delapaz and Willie Barnes Alex. Ed was very proud of his Mexican and Native American heritage. He was a member of the Alabama Coushatta Tribe of Texas. As a boy, he moved with his family to Michigan and attended school in East Lansing. He joined the US Army in 1967 and served for three years, including a year in Korea and a year in Vietnam. Immediately upon discharge from the Army, he was hired at General Motors in Lansing. That same year, he married his wife, Cindy, and along with her two children, Tammi and Traci, they had a daughter, Jamie Sue, and a son, Edward, Jr. Ed retired from GM after 30 years of service. He then enjoyed many years of retirement with his family. He was a passionate hunter and collector of classic cars.
Ed was predeceased by brothers Johnnie Cumpian, Jim Alex, and sister Elena Pizana-Torrey. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; son Eddie Jr., daughters Jamie (Tim) Binger, Tammi (Tim) Lyon, and Traci (Kevin) Heuhs; grandchildren Tiffany (Ryan) Mack, Jason and Jarett Lyon, Sidney and Skyler Binger, and Keagan Strang-Alex. Also surviving are brothers Bill (Jo) Alex and Tom (Kathleen) Pizana, as well as many other extended family members. He will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman East Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823, June 13, 2026, at 10:00 am with memorial service at 11:00 am. A luncheon will be held at 1:00 pm, One North Kitchen & Bar, 1310 Abbot Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823
