Growing up as the fourth child in a family of nine daughters, Fe was the adventurous one. Whether it was climbing out onto the chicken coop, or leaving her family and birthplace for a new country, or learning how to swim in her mid-50’s, she always sought and welcomed a challenge. And now, Fe has earned her rest.
Fe Gaddi Anselmo passed away on July 20, 2020 at the age of 91. She was born in Manila, Philippines to Ramon and Emilia Gaddi. She married her high school sweetheart, Ricardo Anselmo, in 1958, with whom she raised a family and celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Fe held education in utmost regard. After graduating from Torres High School, she attended Philippine Normal College (Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education), followed by the University of Santo Tomas (Bachelor’s in Education). She then left the Philippines to attend Michigan State University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Counseling. Finally, while raising four children (the youngest less than 1 year old), Fe earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. She continued her dedication to education as a professor of psychology at Lansing Community College for 24 years.
Outside of lecturing and teaching, Fe enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She was a volunteer at the MSU Wharton Center and a proud, long-time member and past president of the Lansing Woman’s Club. Fe and Ric travelled the world, reaching every continent except Antarctica. She was a proud MSU Spartan and dedicated fan of MSU football and basketball. One of her happiest moments was meeting Sparty in person in her own room. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, truly celebrating the mantra of “the more, the merrier”.
Fe relished living life to its fullest — travelling, learning, experiencing. As she said at her last of countless lunches at the Chinese restaurant, “There’s so many things that I did, because I don’t keep quiet. Who wants to keep quiet? So, I’m always on the run.”
Surviving are her daughters, Felicia (Tim) Ryan, Patricia (Greg) Sovitch, and Stella (Mike) Boldrick; grandchildren, Nate Sovitch, Delaney Ryan, Abbey (Sawyer) Dawe, Carly Ryan, Olivia Sovitch, and Patrick Boldrick; great-grandson, Desmond Dawe; sister, Priscilla Paguio; and many nieces and nephews.
Fe was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ricardo Anselmo; son, Edward Anselmo; sisters, Ursulina Franco, Maria Theresita Gaddi, Violeta Viray, Zeneida Macalincag, and infant sisters.
Fe was blessed with endless love, care, and support from the staff of Vista Springs Timber Ridge, Dr. Enrique Lopez and staff, Grace Gallardo, and many more dear friends.
Memorial services for Fe Anselmo will begin with visitation at 10:00 am, followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 am on Monday, July 27, 2020 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wharton Center Seats 4Kids.
