Fred Bruce Bauries, 81, East Lansing, MI, peacefully joined his creator and his lovely wife, MJ, December 16, 2016. He was born to Fred and Loretta Bauries on Dec. 16, 1935 in Chicago, IL. Fred received a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota. In 1968, in the days of metal type, he worked as a journeyman typesetter with Leo Burnett Advertising in Chicago. An excellent photographer with a keen eye, Fred used his skills as a professional wedding photographer. He later brought his young family to East Lansing, Michigan where he accepted a job at Michigan State University teaching journalism. Remembering his publishing days he founded Infinity Graphics in the basement of his home creating clipart books for the Credit Union industry. Being a communications specialist, he built this business by creating slide shows and working with area designers and printers typesetting and imaging film for the printing industry. He was a member of several industry organizations including TIA (Typographic Industry of America), QUO (Quadex Users Organzation), PICA (Publishing In Capital Area), and a Roundtable Group of Peers he formed with other industry leaders. He served as president and was awarded a Silver Medal from the Lansing Advertising Club. He also served as 6th District Governor for the American Advertising Federation. Being an active community leader, Fred served on the East Lansing Cable Commission, Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Citizens for a Better East Lansing. His community was true to his heart as he was instrumental in getting a basketball court built on the old Marble School grounds, the Hannah Middle School converted to a Community Center, and the construction of East Lansing Aquatic Center.
Fred will forever be remembered by his treasured children Scott and Suzette (Brian) Perry, doting grandchildren Sophia, Sebastian, and Natasha Perry, great grandchild Astor, caring sister Marybeth (Gwen), along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. A celebration of life will be held Sunday January 15th from 2-5p.m. at the Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Rd. East Lansing. Fred’s greatest joy would be for all to plant a tree or ride a train.
