Was looking for Grant on Facebook and found this. Grant was my best friend in grade school St. Louis Park, MN. Was very sad when he had to move to MI. Wish I could have gotten to know him again. Very sorry he is gone.

My only real memory of Grant and Will was from a visit to Okemos in about 1992.  I believe it was shortly after the move to the new house on Satinwood.  Ray and I played basketball with the boys in the driveway.  We had our first Cairn Terrier with us.  It was a wonderful day meant to reconnect with Barb and Rod.   The boys were an unexpected bonus.   I wish I could have known Grant as an adult,  and I hope I get a chance to meet Will again some day.  Grant clearly had a big impact on many in his short life.  I am happy to have my brief memory of him.

To the Folland Family: I only had the privilege of knowing Grant for the last year.  He was an easy person to connect with and I thought very highly of him.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  My family's thoughts are with you.

I never met Grant, but I know his parents, so there is something about Grant I'm certain of: that he was cherished and that he could always count on it.

To Barb and Rod, to the Folland family and to Grant's friends, I am so sorry for your loss and I wish you peace.

Dear Folland Family,

I knew Grant as an undergraduate.  We had many coffee house discussions.  Grant had the ability to explore ideas with others in an inclusive, respectful, and engaging manner that also acknowledged the power, complexity, and importance of the ideas themselves and their place in our lives.  He had a gift and used it well while he was with us.  His passing is a true loss for our community.

I was a friend and fellow student of Grant's at MSU. I always had the highest respect of and admiration for Grant. His intellect and friendliness were always a source of inspiration. He will be missed by all.

May the Folland family find comfort in knowing that God is "near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." (Psalm 34;18)  He has promised to soon "swallow up death forever...and wipe the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8)  Take care,

I worked with Grant at Jenner & Block, and found him to be a true gentleman, a superior attorney and an even better person.  I never saw Grant do anything that wasn't just excellent through and through. And he did it all with grace, and good humor. If my sons turn out like Grant, I would be beaming with pride.  My most sincere condolences; we will always miss Grant.

I was shocked and so sorry to hear about Grant's sudden death.  Grant and I had parallel paths as students--I went to Haslett High School while he was at Okemos,  we were classmates at James Madison, and also overlapped at the University of Chicago for a year while he was a law student and I was working on an M.A.  I always saw him as so bright, so capable.  He had the respect and affection of his peers.  His death at such a young age is a true loss, and will be felt by his many friends, colleagues, and classmates.  I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Folland family.....
Memories of Grant are of a kind young man who liked a good discussion and used his artistic skills to enhance his work.  The kindness to others that he exhibited, even in middle school, showed a maturity beyond his years. We are sorry for your loss.

I am an employee in James Madison College and I remember Grant fondly.  When he was a student, I worked in the JMC Academic Affairs office and was in contact with him often.  What a genuinely nice young man with superior manners.  He leaves behind a legacy of touching the lives of everyone that knew him.  My deepest sympathies are with all of you in your loss.

To the Folland family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Grant was a student in my freshman writing course at James Madison College.  Rarely have I encountered a student so engaged with learning.  He was a joy to have in the classroom and a warm intelligent presence in Case Hall after he left my course.  I will remember his sharp intellect, his sometimes biting sense of humor, and his smiling demeanor.  He will be missed.
