Holly was born on Dec. 23, 1968, at RAF Lakenheath, England, United Kingdom. After her father’s service in the U.S. Air Force, her family settled back in Flint, Michigan. Holly loved to dance, and ballet gave her tremendous joy throughout childhood. She graduated from Carman-Ainsworth High School in 1987, where she excelled in academics and sports, serving as team captain on her varsity volleyball and tennis squads. She was a creative soul who loved to write and later graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in journalism.
During her time as a journalist in Genesee County, Holly especially enjoyed writing feature articles and meeting people in the community. She had a special fondness for her time as managing editor of the Tri-County Times in Fenton.
Holly was deeply dedicated to her family. Following the birth of her twins, she chose to focus on caring for them at home. Once her boys were in school full-time, Holly re-entered the workforce and eventually got the opportunity to work for her beloved Michigan State University. Holly immensely enjoyed working for MSU’s College of Agriculture & Natural Resources Communications Department, and in 2019, her MSU magazine, “Futures,” was named the best college magazine in the country.
Holly had a giving and kind heart who always thought of others before thinking of herself. She volunteered and gave to many local, state, and national charities over the years and held a special place in her heart for Cristo Rey Community Center in Lansing. She loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and especially vacationing near the shores of Lake Michigan during the summers. Holly loved to draw, journal, and cook. She also made beautiful decorative pillows, photo frames, and clothing and sold them at art fairs throughout the state.
Holly married her husband John on May 20, 1994, at the MSU Chapel, and together, they raised their twin boys, Owen and Jack, in DeWitt. Holly is survived by her husband and children; and father, David Green Sr. of Grand Blanc. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Carolanne Green, and brother, David Green Jr.
A graveside service will be held later for family and friends.
