

Irene May Moreno Seahawk, born December 30th, 1939 in Shepherd, Michigan to Reverend Albert and Trinity (Aleman) Moreno, passed away May 7th, 2025. A gifted student and educator, Irene earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, with a minor in Physics, from CMU, an MBA from Boston University, and a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. She nearly obtained her Ph.D in finance from MSU before a battle with cancer interrupted her dissertation.
In the early 60s, after initially teaching in Michigan for a year, Irene transitioned to teaching for the Department of Defense Schools. Her assignments took her to Germany, Turkey, and finally Belgium, where she married Richard Seahawk in 1969. Upon returning to Michigan in 1981, she pursued a career as a financial advisor, which she continued until her retirement. In her later years, Irene was an active member of the Peoples Church and the Lansing Woman’s Club. She always had impeccable taste and a love of food and the arts. Irene was cherished dearly by her many nieces and nephews, to whom she was an immeasurable source of love and support.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, and siblings Cristina (Manker) and Albert Jr. She is survived by siblings Sara Pena, Rachael Moreno, Esther Kulhavi, Diana Smith, Reuben Moreno, and Naomi (James) Stark, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Peoples Church in East Lansing on Saturday May 17th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.
