James Edward Claucherty (Jim) passed away on February 11, 2026, after a short illness. He was born in Lansing on October 30, 1932, to John A. and Mary (Szedlak) Claucherty. Jim graduated from East Lansing High School, received an undergraduate degree from Michigan State College, and did graduate work at Michigan State University. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Europe after the Korean War. He worked as a licensing official for the State of Michigan Department of Public Health and also managed property in East Lansing. In 1961, Jim married the love of his life, Ardyth Olson, in Tustin, Michigan, at Augustana Lutheran Church. Their pride and joy are their three children, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jim was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran church in East Lansing. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, travels with Ardyth, and time on the family farm in Tustin, MI. Above all, Jim loved time spent with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and an infant son. Jim was very devoted to his family who are left to cherish his memory: Ardyth, his loving wife of over 64 years; sons Michael (Mary) and Erick Claucherty; daughter Kathleen (John) Pearl; Grandchildren: Emma (Andrew), Alison (Chris), Jack (Catherine), Ethan, Christian and Caleb Claucherty, Ellen, Alec and Leah Pearl, Brandy (Brandon) Nichols; great-grandchildren: Christopher, Archer, Corran, Michah and Layla; niece Kim Marie Ouimet and nephew John Claucherty.
A memorial service will be held on April 18th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3383 E. Lake Lansing Rd. East Lansing, MI. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am. Service will begin at 12:00 pm, followed by a luncheon.
