

James E McGillicuddy, II, MD; died suddenly March 15, 2022 at the age of 81 at Sparrow Hospital. Jim was son of Robert and Ruth (Robinson) McGillicuddy, loving brother to Robert B McGillicuddy, Dr. Denis McGillicuddy, and Melissa McGillicuddy. Proud husband of 47 years to Susan, and wonderful father of Matthew McGillicuddy, Kara Landstrom, and Kyler McGillicuddy. Jim is also survived by his 7 adored grandchildren.
Jim grew up in East Lansing and played on East Lansing High School 1958 State Championship Basketball team. An esteemed surgeon, Jim came from a long line of physicians; his name sake helped found Sparrow Hospital. He attended pre-med at Albion College, received his medical degree from University of Michigan, interned at Wayne County General Hospital, and completed his surgical training at the University Of Cincinnati Department Of Surgery (1974). He also served as Associate and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Michigan State University (1975-87), and was Chief of Staff at Sparrow Hospital (1998-2000). He was the proud owner of the Lansing Hernia Center, and served as President of Lansing Rotary. Outside of the medicine, Jim’s love of his country led him to serve as Captain in the Air Force in Little Rock Arkansas (1967-69), and the US Army Reserve as Lt. Col, during Desert Storm (1990-93).
Jim is remembered as a loving husband, and father, respected older brother, beloved doctor, enthusiastic debater, dedicated pianist, and in his later years an occasionally decent golfer.
