

Jane Venus DeHoog, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday March 20th with her granddaughter, Jessica Carlson, by her side. She was born on March 4th 1941 to Morris, Bud, Vanderstelt and Winifred, Winnie, Seng Vanderstelt in Muskegon, MI, where she grew up. She graduated from Muskegon Catholic High School in 1959 and married her first husband, Ronald A Dehoog, soon after. Together, they had three children, Rebecca, Ronald Jr., and Matthew. Following her passion for education and love of learning, she graduated from Muskegon Community College in 1976 with an AS and shortly after moved to East Lansing to attend and graduate from Michigan State University in 1978 with a BS degree. Later furthering her education by obtaining her MS in 1995 from MSU as well.
She married Richard Rogers in 1989. They enjoyed traveling and spending late nights supporting MSU basketball with their friends and family.
Jane was proud of her work at MSU in research on various projects, most especially on Tamoxafin, a Breast Cancer chemotherapy drug, as well as researching the toxic effect of PCBs in fish on human reproduction. After dedicating many years, she retired from the American Red Cross Blood Service where she loved working as a supervisor in the Lansing region, as well as being manager of the Donor Suitability Section in Toledo OH and Nashville TN.
An artist at heart, she was awarded a scholarship for her watercolor painting. She was also loved to read, write and spend time in nature. She found joy in both quiet creativity and traveling and exploring. Often visiting many of the National Parks, of which she was an avid supporter. She enjoyed the outdoors and hiking, especially in Zion National Forest, and the Grand Canyon, as well as visiting Alaska and Australia. Hawaii held a special place in her heart, as she enjoyed many trips visiting with her dear friend, watching the whales and cherishing the Islands' beautiful shores and volcanos. At home, her beloved Germen Shepard, Nikko, was a loyal companion for many years and she treasured spending time with her great granddaughters, Chloe and Cayden Carlson, by visiting the MSU children's Gardens and going on many adventures.
Jane is survived by her brother Tim Vanderstelt (Nadine), her daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Jeff Hilliard, granddaughters, Jessica Carlson (David) and Jennifer Kristler (Jay), her great granddaughters, Chloe and Cayden Carlson and will be lovingly remembered by her step daughters, Amber Reeves (James), Ashley Rodgers (George Herbert), Alicia Fulmer (Jason) and Andrea Hepner (Timothy) and step grandsons Caleb, Jaxon and Alex Hepner. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Bud and Winnie, her sons, Mathew David, and Ronald Allen Jr, her husband Richard Rogers, sister Paula Opalek and step granddaughter Catin Walsh.
As the matriarch of her family, Jane Dehoog, will always be remembered as a loving and strong Mother and Grandmother who both inspired and motivated everyone she loved and will continue to do so for generations to come.
