

Born on July 25, 1937, in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Jung began his journey in medicine with a degree from the prestigious Taiwan University. Driven by a deep commitment to healing and innovation, he continued his medical education in the United States, earning his degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1966. He later specialized in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery through advanced training at the University of Missouri.
In 1979, Dr. Jung established his medical practice in Lansing, Michigan, where he would go on to leave an indelible mark on the region’s healthcare landscape. He was a founding member of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Institute (TCI) at Ingham Medical Center—now known as McLaren Greater Lansing—where he helped shape the future of cardiac care in mid-Michigan. His surgical expertise also extended to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Jung was known for his precision in the operating room and his unwavering dedication to patient care. His contributions not only saved countless lives but also inspired generations of medical professionals who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Jung found joy and balance through Tai Chi, which he practiced regularly as a form of meditation and physical discipline. He was also an avid collector of paintings and Chinese art, passions that reflected his deep appreciation for culture and beauty.
Dr. Jung was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Chao Mei Jung, who passed away in 2006.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Terresa Jung-D’haem, MD; his son, Melvin Jung, DMD; and his son-in-law, Patrick D’haem. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Zach D'haem, Maddie D’haem, and Lucas D’haem.
Dr. Jia Ying Jung’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched—as a healer, mentor, father, grandfather, and friend. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire excellence in all who follow in his footsteps.
